One hundred years combined mining experience

The Principals of CEMMATS have a combined experience of over One hundred years in the diamond and mineral sands mining industry, mostly in Sierra Leone. The experience was gained at the National Diamond Mining Company (NDMC) and Sierra Rutile Ltd.(SRL).

When operating, NDMC was the largest employer next to the Government and operated a major alluvial diamond mining operation, mining seven million cubic yards of overburden and gravel per year to produce 800,000 to 1,000,000 carats of diamond. Sierra Rutile Ltd. was the world's largest single producer of natural rutile with an annual turnover of US$100 million before it shut down as a consequence of war-related activities in 1995. It operated a large 4000 tonne dredge and 3000 tonne processing plant and several processing facilities.

The mine operated its own ore storage and shipping facilities incorporating barges, silos, storage sheds and associated haulage and loading facilities. Both mines operated in remote locations necessitating the self generation of electricity (18 MW power generating station-later upped to 25 MW for SRL), their own fabrication and machining workshops and the provision of maintenance services for all mining and processing equipment as well as the provision and maintenance of infrastructural services.

CEMMATS aims to make the considerable engineering and management experience of its key staff impact positively on projects undertaken for its clients.
